To our cartoonist friends,
Thank you to all who have entered the Women on the World International Cartoon Competition (WoW). Entries have been received so far from: China, Germany, Turkey, Lebanon, Belgium, Chile, Spain and the U.S. However, we are still hoping for many more entries and there is still time as the deadline for entries is February 24, 2012.
The Women on the World Cartoon Competition is open to only women cartoonists, and caricaturists to convey your views on world or women's issues. There is no limit to the number of entries and works may be published or unpublished.
A completed entry form must accompany your entry. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.rotarycartoonawards.com. If you are submitting multiple entries only one completed entry form is required.
About Us
The Women on the World International Cartoon Competition is being run in conjunction with the Bunker Cartoon Gallery - Australia's only dedicated cartoon gallery. The Bunker Cartoon Gallery Inc., in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour City, has successfully run the Rotary Cartoon Awards for the past 23 years.
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is located in Coffs Harbour on the north coast of New South Wales and is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity. The Bunker is currently operated by the Coffs Harbour City Council with one paid Council employee assisted by a dedicated team of volunteers who give their own valuable time to promote cartooning.
The ongoing operating costs of the Bunker Cartoon Gallery are provided by our Coffs Harbour community and any revenue gained from the cartoons goes entirely towards the operation of the Bunker Cartoon Gallery. The sole aim of the Bunker Cartoon Gallery is to promote cartooning and cartoonists and our city throughout the world.
A Women of the World exhibition was previously held by us in 2009. In 2012, Women on the World (WoW) is in its inaugural year as a competition and carries the same rules as applicable to the Rotary Cartoon Awards.
Your works:
On entering WoW, entrants agree to donate their works to the Rotary Cartoon Collection. Works from the Collection will be exhibited and may be toured throughout Australia. The Rotary Cartoon Collection is a considered a significant historic record for Australia and cartooning art. It enables an artist's work to be enjoyed by future generations.
The cartoons may be exhibited and reproduced in a catalogue or similar, onto post cards or in an electronic format, and may be copied or used at the Rotary Club's discretion, any time in the future, including for sale through the Bunker Cartoon Gallery in Australia or throughout the world. Proceeds of which will go towards the ongoing operational costs of the Bunker Cartoon Gallery in Australia and to support Rotary charities.
Some artists have expressed concerns regarding copyright. In light of this, we have decided to return to the same basic wording that has been used for the past few years on our entry forms. This has been generally acceptable and is in line with the requirements of most other international cartoon competitions. Rotary Cartoon Awards have received on average around 500 hundred entries per year under these rules which shows the support by cartoonists for the competition and the Bunker Cartoon Gallery.
We hope you will join with the other women artists who have already entered the Women on the World International Cartoon Competition and show the world the power of the female pen and humour.
Good luck with your entry...
Fran Stephenson,
On behalf of
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery Inc.
